Senior Jerome Gabriel's 4 goals helped Palatine's boys water polo team edge Elk Grove 14-11 in overtime on Wednesday in a Mid-Suburban League crossover matchup after the Grens had used a big second half to force the extra time.
Sean O'Brien and Sam Adame both added 3 goals for the Pirates (3-8), and Glenn Ingebritson had 2.
Zach Gray and Christian Synder had 1 goal apiece for the winners, who received 13 blocks from sophomore goalie Nathan Allen.
Palatine led 9-3 at the half before Elk Grove rallied with a 3-0 scoring edge in the third quarter, followed by a 5-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Senior Nick Rosenorn, who paced the Grenadiers with 5 goals, scored on a shallow-end lob with just over a second left to force overtime. He also finished with a team-best 3 assists.
Senior Amar Patel contributed 3 goals for Elk Grove (4-10).
O'Brien scored twice and Adame once for the Pirates in the extra sessions.
Buffalo Grove 12, Schaumburg 5: Kevin Carr and Daniel Korol both came up with 4 goals to help the East Division-leading Bison prevail in their MSL crossover with the Saxons.
