Southern Indiana animal shelter reopens after losing staff

CORYDON, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana animal shelter has reopened weeks after it was shuttered due to a staffing shortage that came amid a misconduct investigation.

Although the Harrison County Animal Shelter reopened Monday, it's only able to distribute spay and neuter vouchers and accept adoption applications.

Shelter officials say any animals brought to the Corydon shelter to be surrendered will not be accepted.

WDRB-TV reports the shelter closed in early February after a misconduct investigation led to the firing of the shelter's director and the resignations of three shelter employees.

The shelter has since hired new staff.

Harrison County Prosecutor Otto Schalk has said the misconduct allegations have nothing to do with mistreatment of animals.

The shelter is now in need of numerous items, including canned food for dogs and cats.
