Letter: Sports 'doublespeak'
The Bears and NFL excel in doublespeak, which the article about the "new Bears bill" in Saturday's Daily Herald seems to confirm. Teams explain that players demand and secure high salaries because of "market" pressures. But they drop their "marketeering" when it comes to building and financing playpens for those high-priced players and their multi-millionaire/multi-billionaire owners, They look to the public for hefty handouts. On the one hand, they love "markets," but on the other hand, they want to protect and subsidize those markets with socialism.
