Girls water polo: Nice start for Prospect at Palatine

Prospect's girls water polo team had a strong first day in the Pirate Invitational at Palatine on Friday, falling 13-7 to highly ranked Lincoln-Way East but bouncing back to tie St. Charles North 4-4.

The Knights were led by Colleen Doyle with 3 goals against L-Way East. Against the North Stars, Doyle again led the way, with 2 goals.

St. Charles North is coached by George Mitchell, formerly the JV boys coach at Palatine. The Stars started with an 8-4 victory over Conant as Jules Engesser scored three times and Olivia Traxler drew 5 ejections. MSL West leader Conant got a pair of goals from Nia Tsoulos in the setback.

Palatine dropped a 9-0 decision to Evanston and fell 8-7 against Maine South.

Against the Hawks, the Pirates scored 4 goals in the first quarter. Maggie O'Brien and Ellis Nelson finished with 3 goals apiece for Palatine.

Pool play resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday, with championship round matchups beginning at 1 p.m. The championship is slated for 3:30 p.m.
