UND basketball coach Jones honored by Samaritan's Feet
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Samaritan's Feet International has named North Dakota head men's basketball coach Brian Jones its 2016 Barefoot Coach of the Year for his dedication to the nonprofit group that provides shoes to impoverished children.
Jones will be presented with the award at the Legends of Hardwood Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the George R. Brown Convention Center in conjunction with the Final Four.
Jones has coached a game barefoot during the past four basketball seasons to help create awareness for the Samaritan's Feet cause. The group says he also had his teams participate in local shoe drives in which players and staff members have washed the feet of those in need.
Jones says he's honored and humbled to receive the award.
