Fire causes $100,000 in damage to Elgin home

An house fire in Elgin caused about $100,000 in damages on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The Elgin Fire Department responded to the 050 block of South Union Street at 2:43 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the front and rear of a two-story home, according to a news release.

A resident of the home and her baby were outside when crews arrived, officials said, and said the fire was in the basement.

No one was injured, and the cause hasn't yet been determined.
