Talk, but be ready
While it may be prudent to keep diplomatic channels open with North Korea, we should learn from history that negotiating with fanatics is unlikely to yield a positive result. Remember John Kerry and Iran, or Neville Chamberlain and Nazi Germany. So in any such discussions, we should "speak softly, but carry a big stick" and make sure the North Koreans see it.
