Politics and the needs of seniors
Though a senior myself, I had to laugh at the Your Views opinion suggesting Democratic congresspeople prioritize that seniors get a 10% increase in Social Security benefits.
While I obviously can't speak for the writer, my experience with these types of comments is tht they typically come from the same people who vote against school referendums like the one narrowly passed in Arlington Heights and complain about a wide range of other social programs, except of course Medicare.
Also interesting to note, the writer only mentioned Democratic congress people, yet if I'm not mistaken, not a single Republican voted for the recently passed legislation with a provision to allow Medicare to negotiate price with manufacturers on some frequently used drugs by seniors.
The Republican congresspeople did, however, "negotiate" out reduced costs for insulin. I agree that we seniors need to be "recognized" for our numerous contributions, but we are not underserved. I would also suggest people understand which congresspeople best represent their needs and the needs of the nation as a whole before voting in November.
