A Safe Place's 20th golf outing raises over $150,000 for programs
A Safe Place hosted the 20th annual Drive Out Domestic Violence Golf Outing Aug. 15 at Briarwood Country Club in Deerfield, making this the longest running event supporting the mission of A Safe Place.
The nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing services, programs, and resources to empower and transform the lives of victims of domestic violence and human trafficking and their children.
The golf outing, which raised over $150,000 for the agency's lifesaving work, included a luncheon, on-course events, silent and live auctions, dinner and cocktails.
This year's event was made even more special with live music and a partnership with Buffalo Creek Brewing, which featured a custom A Safe Place logo on one of their beers. The beer, named "Healing Waters," was served to guests on course.
"The 20th annual golf outing was again a success in so far that we felt tremendous energy, which translated into financial support and an opportunity to spread awareness on the realities surrounding domestic violence in our communities," Golf Committee co-chair Bob Boyle said.
"The development of the organization over the past 20 years has transformed lives, and we are glad to support the services promoting the hope, bravery, and healing of the survivors of domestic violence. We look forward to another great 20 years."
As Lake County's only provider of services solely dedicated to domestic violence, A Safe Place provides 24-hour crisis support, emergency shelter, affordable housing, court advocacy, supervised and monitored family visitations, and individual and group therapy to survivors of domestic violence and their children; educational programs for the community; and intervention services for abusers to learn accountability for their choices and actions.
Last year, A Safe Place served more than 32,000 adults and children.
A Safe Place's 13th Annual Unmask the Violence Gala will take place in person Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort in Lincolnshire.
