Tax burden driving another resident away
I am retired, 77 years old, and am "cleaning out," hoping to find a home in another state with lower property and income taxes.
My property tax in Milton Township is now $8,170 a year, and still going up, for a home I bought 37 years ago. The benefit of a property tax exemption is totally inadequate when one cannot afford the tax anyway.
The exemption is totally inadequate for the purpose intended and it increases the tax burden on landlords, renters, and business owners. Is that fair? Is it fair that we drive long term residents out of the state with tax increases?
Is it fair that our local, state, and federal governments spend too much?
Is it fair that we pass on massive public debts to our children?
