Naperville cracks down on DUI, seat-belt violations
Three motorists were charged with impaired driving and 21 received citations for failure to wear seat belts during a Naperville police crackdown from Dec. 18 through Jan. 3 as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
The push was coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation, in partnership with state police and police departments across the state.
During the campaign, Naperville police conducted four patrols aimed at drunken drivers and three aimed at those not wearing seat belts.
"What should be a merry and joyful time of year gets overshadowed by drunk driving, time and time again. We gave Naperville drivers plenty of warning that we'd be stopping drunk drivers, and we did just that," Sgt. Derek Zook said. "Drunk driving is a reckless, 100 percent preventable crime, and one that leads to disaster."
