Rolling Meadows cops will carry anti-overdose drug naloxone
Rolling Meadows police officers will now be equipped with naloxone, a medication that can reverse heroin and prescription opiate overdoses, authorities said Tuesday.
The department received naloxone kits and training from the Cook County Overdose Prevention Program. Officers who respond to emergencies involving overdoses "now have a lifesaving tool at their disposal," department officials said in a news release.
The opioid overdose antidote is increasingly being used by law enforcement agencies, in face of growing numbers of overdose deaths throughout the suburbs.
