Gunfire reported early Monday morning in Elgin

Elgin police are investigating after gunshots were reported early Monday morning.

Officers responded about 1:21 a.m. to the 400 block of Barrett Street, where they spoke to witnesses who heard gunshots but couldn't pinpoint the location.

After an unsuccessful search, officers returned to the area about 8:03 a.m. and discovered evidence of a shooting along with property damage on the block. There were no injuries reported.
