Chet Coppock to discuss new book in downtown Arlington Heights
Longtime Chicago sportscaster Chet Coppock will hold court next week as part of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library's Books and Brews series.
He'll be at Eddie's Restaurant and Lounge, 10 Northwest Highway, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 to discuss "If These Walls Could Talk: Chicago Bears," which he co-wrote with Otis Wilson, a linebacker on the Super Bowl XX championship team. The book features stories from the Bears sideline, locker room and press box.
"I'm really looking forward to it," Coppock said. "I love this. A small room, 35 guys, it's nice and cozy. It's all conversational. I'm really looking forward to it."
Ol' Chester is considered the "Godfather of Sports Talk Radio" because of the magazine-style show he launched on the former WMAQ-AM in 1984 that featured athletes, coaches and reporters from across the country. He remains active in broadcasting, with work including appearances on the "Rant and Rave" segment on Fox 32's "Final Word" fronted by Lou Canellis on Sunday nights.
Fans should not expect Coppock to walk into Eddie's wearing a full-length fur coat - a trademark from his younger days.
"The fur coats have been permanently retired," he said, laughing. "I've finally reached maturity."
Coppock, who's been master of ceremonies for Chicago Blackhawks Roadwatch parties, is no stranger to the pen. In addition to "If These Walls Could Talk," he wrote "Doug Buffone: Monster of the Midway" and "Fat Guys Shouldn't Be Dancin' at Halftime."
