Reminders can help get us through the day
"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads ... Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates."
- Deuteronomy 11:18-20 (NIV)
My friend asked me, "What was it I said I would bring the next time I came to visit you?"
As she listened to my reply, she pulled out a notepad from her purse and said, "Let me write it down so I don't forget again."
We discussed how we need to write reminders to ourselves. I explained when I was younger I didn't use to-do lists to remind me. Then, when working as a nurse manager, I had so many tasks to juggle that many times, at the end of the day, I left feeling like I'd hardly accomplished what I set out to do.
One day an employee approached my desk. As she looked at the mountains of paperwork there, she asked how I got through it.
When I explained my dilemma she said, "Try making a list of the things you need to do, then you can review it and scratch off what you got done. It will serve as a reminder and you will see that you have accomplished something."
I threw away my pride and decided I would start making a short list each day. Following that advice was life changing for me. To this day, I still make a small list regarding work and personal tasks I want to complete.
God knows we need reminders. That is why, in the ancient biblical times, he instructed that the people should keep his words in their sight. This was carried out as each would write them on their door frames, headbands and hands.
I place gentle reminders of the things God instructs from the Bible all over my house. I have a small plaque that sits on a shelf amid family photos that reads: "Prayer Changes Things." I have a small wooden angel my granddaughter gave me sitting on the ledge above my kitchen sink holding a sign that reads: "Believe."
A friend of mine informed me she keeps a note taped to her computer to remind herself, "With God all things are possible."
Reminders: A little practical Godly advice that makes our life a bit easier.
