Prescription Drug Collection Now Offered by the Elk Grove Village Police Department
As part of the Elk Grove Village Cares Program, the Elk Grove Village Police Department has installed a prescription drug collection box in the Police Department lobby. Collecting prescription drugs helps prevent the misuse, abuse, accidental poisonings and overdoses of prescription medications. It also prevents the contamination of our water supply, through unsafe disposal methods.
The collection box, which is available 24 hours a day provides for the safe and secure disposal of prescription medications. Residents can bring in unwanted medications and drop them into the collection box at any time. The collection box is provided through the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department and will be emptied by their representative on a monthly basis.
Sharps and liquid medications are not accepted through the collection box. Sharps and needles secured in a sharps collection container can be taken to the Fire Department Administration on the lower level of Village between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Liquid medications can be safely disposed of by pouring them into a container of kitty litter, coffee grounds, or table salt and then simply placing the container into the garbage.
In conjunction with Elk Grove Village Cares and for the convenience of the community, Elk Grove Village is proud to expand services in an effort to make the community safer.
