Two Elgin churches to host Lenten retreat March 12

On Saturday, March 12, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church will co-sponsor a Lenten Retreat. It will be 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Hugh of Lincoln, 36W957 Highland Ave. in Elgin.

The program will be facilitated by Dr. Rise' Dawn Jones, a classically trained singer with a doctorate in public policy analysis, and Dr. Margaret Brady, director of music at both churches and licensed lay preacher.

The program, "To Act Justly: Using African American Art Song and Poetry As a Focus for Spiritual Formation," will combine the women's musical, spiritual and leadership experiences into an interactive performance based upon the Biblical passage in Micah 6:8 that says man should "act justly, love kindness and walk humbly with God."

The three-part presentation will include time for personal reflection as well as group discussions focused on the scripture and songs and led by the Rev. Richard Frontjes of Redeemer and the Rev. Marion Phipps of St. Hugh.

At the conclusion of the retreat, all attendees will be invited to stay and participate in a Holy Eucharist service from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

The Lenten Retreat is open to all who are interested in beginning their Lenten journey with a deeper spiritual experience. While there is no charge for the program, masks will be required inside the church.

Register before Monday, March 7, by sending an email to margaretmbrady@gmail.com with your name, email address and phone number. She would also like to hear your reason for wanting to attend. If you have questions, contact her at (847) 508-6337 or visit www.sthugh.net for program details.
