Village of Elk Grove and Fire Union Reach Record Length Five-Year Contract Agreement
Elk Grove Village and the International Association of Firefighters Local 2340, the union representing the village's 84 firefighters, have reached an agreement on a record length five-year contract extension. This is a mature union contract and the negotiation process was amicable and thorough. This record-length contract is the first time the agreement has been extended for five years with the fire union - signifying the continued strong relationship between the fire union and village.
"We're very pleased to reach this agreement with our dedicated firefighters' union. This agreement not only ensures the safety and well-being of our residents but also recognizes the invaluable service our firefighters provide day in and day out," said Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson. "Together, we are committed to a safer, stronger, and more resilient community for the next half-decade and beyond."
The new contract includes annual adjustments to firefighter wages that continue to mirror the increases of the village's contract with the police officers union, Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 141 (MAP), as they have in the past.
With this extension, the village's contract with the fire union will continue through April 30, 2029. With the signing of this contract there are now long-term contracts in place for all three unions representing Elk Grove Village employees. The contract between the village and police officers is through 2028, and the contract between the village and public works will run through 2026.
Officials from the International Association of Firefighters, Local 2340 and the village held a brief signing ceremony to officially approve the contract at last night's village board meeting.
