Lake County board says it supports government consolidation

The Lake County Board is supporting a change in state law that would give it authority to dissolve some units of local government and consolidate government functions. The law now gives DuPage County that power but Lake County falls under the population threshold. Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor said the change would give Lake County authority to consider whether consolidation or elimination of certain bodies, such as drainage or mosquito abatement districts makes sense. The county board approved a resolution in support of the change Tuesday without comment.
