6 hurt when SUV crashes into Indianapolis cellphone store

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Six people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries Monday after an SUV crashed into a store on Indianapolis' northwest side, authorities said.

Six of the people injured were taken to area hospitals, and another person hurt declined medical treatment at the scene, said James Michalisko, a division chief with the Pike Township Fire Department.

Indianapolis and Pike Township medics and police were dispatched to the crash shortly after 4 p.m. in a strip mall.

Some of those injured are employees of the store, police said.

Officer William Young said the car was parked outside of the store, but it's unclear what led up to the crash.

It wasn't clear if the driver's foot slipped or what led to the crash, Young said.

Young said the driver left the scene of the crash but was later taken into custody.
