Vealitzek beats incumbent in Lake County Board District 10

After early and mail-in votes were counted late Tuesday night, Democratic challenger Jessica Vealitzek squeaked out a late victory against incumbent Republican Charles "Chuck" Bartels in the race for the Lake County Board's 10th District seat.

With all 24 precincts reporting, Vealitzek, of Hawthorn Woods, beat Bartels, of Mundelein, 7,571 to 7,555, unofficial results showed.

Bartels has served on the board and the Lake County Forest Preserve District board since 2014.

Vealitzek campaigned for ethical reform and more transparency in county government.
