Naperville to begin sanitary sewer system testing

The city of Naperville will be smoke testing sanitary sewer systems in the neighborhoods south of 75th Street starting June 26.

The nontoxic smoke testing is designed to identify leaks and connections where stormwater can enter. Pending weather or unforeseen circumstances, the testing should be completed by the end of September.

While the smoke is nontoxic and won't enter buildings unless there is defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps, people with respiratory issues may wish to take extra precautions, such as leaving the area for a few hours until testing is complete.
