Hoffman Estates offering Christmas tree recycling
After the holidays, Hoffman Estates will offer residents opportunities to recycle their live Christmas trees and wreaths.
Curbside pickup of Christmas trees will be available on regularly scheduled waste collection days for the first two weeks of January. All lights, ornaments, garland and artificial decorations must be removed from the tree, plastic disposal bags are prohibited and one disposal sticker must be visibly wrapped around the tree trunk or branch.
Wreaths and garland made of pine boughs or other organic materials also will be accepted, provided any wiring and plastic has been removed and the items are placed in a Kraft yard waste bag with a disposal sticker attached.
Trees and greenery can also be dropped off at no charge any time between Dec. 26 and Jan. 7 at the Public Works Fleet Maintenance Facility, 2405 Pembroke Ave.; the field next to Fire Station 23, 1300 Westbury Drive; and the field next to Fire Station 24, 5775 Beacon Pointe Drive.
