Pedestrian taken to hospital after being struck by freight train

A pedestrian who was struck by an empty freight train near Naperville Thursday was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, a spokesman for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway said.

The crash happened about 1:30 p.m. near Eola Road.

"A trespasser walked out on to the tracks and the train struck the trespasser," BNSF Spokesman Andy Williams said.

The empty freight train was headed toward Galesburg in western Illinois when it struck the pedestrian who authorities have not yet publicly identified.

Williams says the pedestrian was, at one point, walking around after being struck by the train.
