U.S. Rep. Susan Brooks is pursuing support for the Republican nomination for Indiana governor if Gov. Mike Pence becomes Donald Trump's running mate.

Two members of the Indiana Republican state committee tell The Associated Press they've talked with Brooks in recent days about her interest in the position.

The committee members say U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita has made similar calls, as have supporters of Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Pence has been in a contentious re-election campaign and would have until noon Friday to withdraw his name as a candidate for governor since state law prevents him from seeking two offices at once.

A Brooks spokeswoman says a final decision on a gubernatorial bid hasn't been made.

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma declined Thursday to comment about possibly seeking the nomination.

The political jockeying to potentially replace Gov. Mike Pence on Indiana's November ballot won't include his popular predecessor Mitch Daniels.

Supporters of the Purdue University president had launched a "Draft Mitch" effort if Donald Trump names Pence as his vice presidential running mate. But former Republican governor said Thursday he won't seek the job.

Pence has been in a contentious re-election campaign and would have until noon Friday to withdraw his name as a candidate for governor since state law prevents him from seeking two offices at once.

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb, Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and U.S. Reps. Todd Rokita and Susan Brooks have also been mentioned as possible options should Republicans need to replace Pence on the ballot.
