Police: Robber fired gun inside Subway, stole cash in Crown Royal bag

Des Plaines police are searching for a man suspected of shooting a gun inside a Subway restaurant during a robbery last week.

The armed robbery happened about 1:40 a.m. Friday, May 18, at the sandwich restaurant at 877 Elmhurst Road, police said.

Employees told investigators that the man walked into the restaurant and asked for a cup of water before sitting in a booth for about 10 to 15 minutes.

When one of the employees went to the restroom, the man went to the cashier register and told another employee to fill a purple Crown Royal whiskey bag with cash, police said.

The man then pulled out of a black pistol with a gold color on top and fired a shot at the ground, police said. Hearing the gunshot, the employee inside the restroom came out and filled the bag with $97, police said.

The man left the scene walking eastbound through the parking lot.

Witnesses described the man as either African American or Hispanic, 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim build and a thin mustache. He was wearing a black hoodie over a black baseball cap and black pants.
