Let retired teachers help fill hiring gap
It would seem that a quick and low-cost solution to the teacher shortage problem in Illinois is to eliminate the 120-day limit on retired teachers working as classroom teachers. There are thousands of retired teachers in Illinois, many of whom might be willing to return to the classroom, especially as substitute teachers.
Given the teacher shortage, hiring a retired teacher is apparently not going to take away a job from a new teacher.
