Des Plaines-based Lutheran Social Services of Illinois reports data breach
Some clients of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois may have had their personal information compromised by a security breach.
On Jan. 27, the Des Plaines-based agency became aware of a ransomware attack on its systems, according to a news release from the McDonal Hopkins Law Firm. Authorities said that the affected systems were contained and an extensive investigation was launched.
On Oct. 20, the agency confirmed that personal and health information of some individuals may have been accessed by an unauthorized party.
The types of information potentially tampered with includes Social Security numbers, medical conditions and insurance information. Authorities said there has been no evidence that anyone's information has been used for identity theft or fraud.
Authorities said that potentially affected parties have been notified by mail. The agency will also provide potentially affected individuals with credit monitoring software for free.
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois provides services and programs for foster care, mental health, alcohol and drug treatment, affordable senior housing, and residential programs for those with developmental disabilities.
