The Round Lake Park Police Department has officially launched its Vial of Life Program.
Approximately 75 residents attended a community meeting at the Saddlebrook Farms Lake Lodge. Chief George Filenko gave a presentation on the Vial of Life, and Vial of Life packets with information sheets were distributed to attendees. These holders have preprinted documents and a magnet attached to them for easy mounting onto refrigerators. Additional packets are available to all Round Lake Park residents for free at the Round Lake Park Police Department, or simply flag down an officer and request a Vial of Life packet.
The Vial of Life is a program that allows individuals to have their complete medical information ready in their home for emergency personnel to reference during an emergency. This program is used to provide the patient's medical information when a patient is not able to speak or remember this information. Vial of Life programs are commonly used by senior citizens and are promoted by senior center organizations, fire and police departments, and other community organizations.
Additionally, Round Lake Park Police Officers collected approximately 45 pounds of expired or unused prescription drugs from attendees. Participants in the program were asked to bring in prescription drugs for disposal. The drugs were collected in about 20 minutes.
"It was a great turnout and provided our senior community an opportunity to meet some of new officers and discuss other issues during the meeting," Chief Filenko said, adding that it was incredible to see the amount of prescription drugs that were collected in a short period of time.
