I-90 closed Saturday night while police investigated suspicious package

Authorities closed down a stretch of Interstate 90 in both directions near Gilberts Saturday night while investigating a suspicious package found in a van.

All lanes reopened about midnight, but authorities did not immediately disclose the nature of the package or further details about the investigation Sunday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident began when Hampshire police officers were involved in a brief pursuit of a silver Dodge van that ended on eastbound I-90 near Gilberts. The Kane County Bomb squad was called to the scene after the package was located inside the vehicle, police said.
