Master plan coming for Mundelein's Plaza Circle

Mundelein's village board on Monday agreed to hire a planning and design engineering firm to develop a master plan for the community space within Plaza Circle, near where village hall stands.

Elements could include shade structures, water features, benches, bike racks and lighting.

Kimley-Horn and Associates will be paid $25,000 for the work. It has worked on several municipal projects in Mundelein, including the new public gathering spot on Park Street and the current conversion of a former guitar factory on Courtland Street into public green space.

The board's unanimous vote came after it approved a development agreement with a company that wants to construct an apartment building just south of village hall. Village hall is the only edifice at Plaza Circle.
