New ministry targets Millennial Generation
Lutheran Church Charities has launched a new ministry aimed at reaching the younger generation (ages 20-35), bringing them back to the calling of Jesus and to serve one another.
ACTS focuses on the Millennial Generation, providing opportunities to be involved in service to the community. ACTS (Action, Compassion, Teamwork, Service) understands that this generation enjoys reaching out, helping others and being involved in service to others, but often struggles to find ways to be involved.
This unique ministry is designed to help fill this void in a way that encourages participants to continue serving, even outside of official ACTS events.
"We want to light a fire for serving others," said Lutheran Church Charities staff member Hannah McGinnis.
While the focus of ACTS is to connect millennials to service projects, it is not limited to millennials. ACTS seeks to provide opportunities for every age group by welcoming them to participate in events. By bringing awareness and opportunity, ACTS is committed to modeling the Lutheran Church Charities mission: "To share the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus Christ, to those who are suffering and in need."
"We just want to include our generation in fulfilling that mission," said Erin Erzinger, Lutheran Church Charities staff member.
As their first official ACT, a fundraising event will be held at Peggy Kinnane's in Arlington Heights, from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, July 31. All donations and 10 percent of all sales will be given to the Fisher House in Hines. The Fisher House Foundation is a national organization that provides free housing to military families while their loved one is hospitalized for an illness, disease or injury. Performing at the event is RENDITION, one of Chicago's most entertaining cover bands.
