Immanuel Lutheran to host free dinner for veterans Nov. 13

Immanuel Lutheran is hosting its fifth annual Free Dinner for Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 13.

All local veterans and servicemen and women are encouraged to invite their families and attend the event.

"It is such an honor to give back to our veterans with this small gesture. We hope they will show up and enjoy their time together sharing memories over delicious food," says Pastor William Yonker, senior pastor at Immanuel Lutheran.

The dinner, planned as an open house event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., will be catered by Aliano's in East Dundee. It will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Route 72 and Van Buren Street.

Organizers encourage veterans to attend the event in person, but a carry-out option will be available this year also.

"Aliano's is so kind as to provide a sizable discount for their delicious Italian food. We know everyone will love what we have to serve," mentioned Scott Lyon, one of the event organizers.

In addition to enjoying delicious food, veterans will have a chance to peruse military memorabilia shared by local servicemen on display at the event.

Organizers hope it will add to the enjoyment of the evening. Interesting items from World War I to present day will be exhibited, and a slide show of military memories will be available for viewing.

Members of the church, school, and community, including two local Girl Scout Troops, will be volunteering to serve the dinner.

They are all looking forward to the opportunity to give back to veterans and servicemen who have given so much for the safety and security of our nation.

Veterans are asked to reserve their meals ahead of time by calling Alison Lyon at (630) 709-6546 or visiting ImmanuelVeteransDinner2022.eventbrite.com. Soft deadline for orders is Friday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m.
