Life of service distinguishes candidate
The best parts of our Naperville citizenry are our shared key values: our passionate love for our children, our civic concern for our parks and Riverwalk, and our support for Naperville's ever-increasing diversity.
From where I live in our 14th District in South Naperville, however, I do not see these best, key values in our current representative in Congress. That is why I am supporting Lauren Underwood for Congress.
Who among us would teach their children that it is OK when their friends who are sick can't see the doctor because their parents can't afford health insurance? In our 14th District, 37,000 of our friends and neighbors have needed to use the Affordable Care Act in purchasing health insurance for their families. Yet Congressman Hultgren voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. As a registered nurse who like many of us has a pre-existing condition, Lauren Underwood understands the value of and will defend affordable health coverage for all. In fact, Lauren actually worked in the government to help implement the Affordable Care Act.
Instead of bullying and name-calling, Lauren talks about striving to live the pledge she made in third grade on her first day in Girl Scouts in Naperville: "to help people at all times."
Instead of practicing divisive politics, Lauren mentors other women who are also running for public office for the first time.
Lauren chose a life of service to others by becoming a nurse. Lauren accepts the truth of climate change and will work to protect our climate and our planet. Also, if she is elected, Lauren will be the first African-American woman to represent our district.
Try Googling "Lauren Underwood for Congress" and reading about Lauren. I think she'll get your vote. She's got mine.
