Sprague School celebrates students' diversity
Students at Lincolnshire's Sprague School learned about their classmates' heritages through art, games and other fun activities Friday as part of the school's second annual Family Cultural Day.
Gathering in the school gym, the kids used chopsticks at a table about China, colored masks for Dia de los Muertos at a table for Mexico and made beaded crafts at a table for India, among other activities.
At each stop, the students got a sticker of that nation's flag for passports hanging around their necks.
Israel, Japan, South Korea and Pakistan were among the other nations represented. Thirteen countries were featured in all.
"And they're all manned by our families," said event organizer Jackie Bever, an English Language Support teacher.
Many of the volunteers wore clothes traditional to the nations they represented. Some students did, too.
Family Cultural Day followed a week of diversity-related lessons and activities for Sprague's students, who range from preschoolers to second graders.
