Huntley Area Lions Club to host annual Helen Keller Day June 24

The Huntley Area Lions Club invites you to its annual Helen Keller Day celebration on Saturday, June 24.

This family event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Huntley Town Square.

This event will be held in conjunction with the Huntley Farmer's Day Market.

Everyone is invited for this free event. Learn about the American disability rights advocate and author Helen Keller, and how she influenced the Lions Club to become "The Knights of the Blind."

Watch Braille being written and get information on vision and hearing services available locally. See your name written in Braille on a Helen Keller bookmark and keep as a souvenir.

Practice writing Braille on sheets or decode sentences written in Braille.

Meet guide dog, Kiwana, a yellow Labrador retriever, and hear from her owner, a Sun City resident about their companionship.

The Lions of Illinois Foundation mobile unit will be on site offering free hearing screening for children and adults and free retinopathy screening for adults. There will also be child vision screening available.

Learn about Lions Club International and the services it provides worldwide and meet local Huntley Area Lions to learn about their service to the Huntley area community.

Enjoy some treats and pick up some educational handouts.
