Celebrating back to school: Aurora church blesses backpacks, shows congregants' cars

St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Aurora celebrated back-to-school season Sunday with a backpack blessing and Cruise Day car show.

The Rev. Patrick Fish, associate pastor, blessed children's backpacks during the 10 a.m. worship service. Free nametags for packs were distributed. Adults were invited to bring work bags for blessing.

After Sunday worship, congregants were invited to display vehicles at a Cruise Day in the church parking lot. Entries included a Mercedes convertible, a motorcycle, a VW Beetle and a rare Saturn Sky sports car. Children were invited to build and race Lego cars.

Refreshments included popcorn and lemonade.

At 27 S. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, St. Mark's holds in-person worship services at 5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. on Sundays.
