A telling contrast in views of election
I was absolutely stunned by two columns on your Nov. 11 Opinion page. One by Michael Lissack was a thoughtful explanation of his view on the election and calling for giving the new president an opportunity to address the concerns of all of the electorate. The other by Michael Gerson mainly expressed his deep angst about his party (who has all the right answers) losing its all-out effort in "controlling all the elected portions of the federal government."
Wasn't that the aim achieved by Hitler, Stalin, Mao and other would be rulers of the world? He claims the voters have turned over the reins of government to a "populist strongman." I don't understand. What happened to the Congress, the Supreme court? Where did they go?
He compares this election to some of the takeovers by dictators in South America. What claptrap.
Everyone should read these two opinions. They are the best example I have seen in some time of the difference between people who are interested in freedom and want to work out the differences in how we achieve that freedom, and those who would take away our freedom and force their beliefs and way of life on others who are too stupid to know what is right and good for them.
I believe that's called dictatorship, theocracy, monarchy, authoritarianism - something like that.
Let's stop with the pseudo-intellectual "my way or the highway" garbage and get down to really doing something about getting back to freedom with responsibility and accountability for all.
