Worker dies in train accident at East Chicago steel mill

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) - A steelworker has died in a fatal train accident at the ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor steel mill in East Chicago.

ArcelorMittal spokeswoman Mary Beth Holdford tells The (Northwest Indiana) Times the worker died Tuesday morning when the engine the worker was operating struck a railcar on an adjacent track in a raw materials yard.

The worker's name wasn't immediately released.

Holdford says ArcelorMittal, the United Steelworkers unions and outside agencies are investigating what happened.

The death is the first at ArcelorMittal's Indiana Harbor steel mill since two occurred there in 2017, one in a crane accident and the other in a buggy accident.
