St. Charles Public Library's Seed Library begins third year
On Saturday, Jan. 28, National Seed Swap Day, the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., is kicking off its third annual Seed Swap and Seed Library Exchange.
From 1 to 2 p.m., members of the community can stop by the library to "check out" more than 400 different heirloom seed varieties, free of charge to grow and enjoy.
The library is one of the few public libraries in Illinois to lend heirloom seeds.
All of the seeds available are heirloom or open-pollinated, meaning that once saved and planted again, they will grow into the same type of plant. The heirloom seeds should all be non-GMO and some of the varieties are organic.
Baker Creek, Seed Savers Exchange, Territorial Seed, High Mowing Organic Seeds, and Victory Seed Company generously donated to the collection.
The seed library will be available anytime that the library is open.
