Thorobreds' coach Smith, QB St. Ge earn SIAC honors

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State's John L. Smith and Thorobreds quarterback Jules St. Ge have been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Coach and Freshman of the Year.

Smith, who previously coached at FBS Louisville, Michigan State and Arkansas, took over the NCAA Division II Thorobreds (4-6, 3-1) this season and guided them to the West Division title. KSU will face Fort Valley State in Saturday night's Cramton Bowl league championship game in Montgomery, Alabama.

St. Ge accounted for 896 yards total offense and six touchdowns. Six KSU teammates were named to the All-SIAC second team: senior running back Reginal Harris, sophomore offensive lineman Marcus Campbell Jr., senior linebacker Travon Spencer, senior defensive back Vincent Edwards Jr., junior defensive lineman Rodriguez Jones and senior kicker Bill Rose.
