Community leaders share favorite books with Woodland students

Woodland Elementary West hosted nearly 75 guests Friday for the annual "Leaders are Readers Day" at the Gages Lake school.

Community leaders, including Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim, Gurnee Fire Department Inspector Katie Hammond and professional bass player John Floeter, took part in the event. Woodland Elementary District 50 administrators, police officers and local businessmen and women also participated.

Students listened to stories from the readers' favorite books and asked questions about their careers. The event helps students learn how essential reading is to succeed.

Woodland Elementary East will host a similar event May 19.
