Monday deadline to apply for Dist. 302 board vacancy

The Kaneland Unit District 302 board currently seeks applicants to fill a vacancy existing from the resignation of board member Cheryl Krauspe.

The individual selected will serve on the school board from the date of appointment through the April 4, 2017 consolidated election.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of application and resume to the Board of Education, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park, IL 60151, by 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26.

The applicant must be: a U.S. citizen; at least 18 years of age; a resident of Illinois and the Kaneland district for at least one year preceding the appointment; and a registered voter. The applicant must not be a child sex offender, hold another incompatible public office, have a prohibited interest in any contract with the district, be a school trustee or hold certain types of prohibited state or federal employment.

Current school board policy prevents having more than three school board members seated from any one township in the district. At the current time, there are three board members from Blackberry Township currently on the board of education. Therefore, applications from Blackberry Township cannot be accepted at this time.

Applicants should show familiarity with the board's policies regarding general duties and responsibilities of a board and a board member, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics and gift ban. The board's policies are available at kaneland.org/board-of-ed. The board of education will review all applications, interview selected candidates and make a selection by Oct. 24.
