Free Grocery Distribution in Elgin for 1,000 Households, Sat. Nov. 4 - First Come, First Served
Northern Illinois Food Bank will be hosting a free grocery distribution mobile popup at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 4. Volunteers will distribute free groceries to the first 1,000 households rain or shine - everyone is welcome.
Groceries will be distributed to the first 1,000 families in a drive through model. First-come, first-served while supplies last. Food is loaded into cars by local volunteers. No ID, proof of income or registration required.
Last year, Northern Illinois Food Bank distributed 10.8 million meals to neighbors in Kane County and served an average of 66K neighbors each month. Inflation, rising food costs and the ending of the emergency government benefits are driving more families, seniors, and individuals to seek assistance from the Northern Illinois Food Bank pantries and programs. To help neighbors in Kane County, Northern Illinois Food Bank will be hosting a free grocery distribution at ECC.

What is a Pop-up mobile market? A popup mobile market is when one-two semi-truckloads of food arrives on location in a community for short period of time and distributed to neighbors. Local volunteers unload and distribute food to neighbors in a drive through model. Mobile markets typically last two hours and provide individuals with common grocery items such as breads, cereals, dairy and fresh produce. Items will vary depending on availability.
In Fiscal Year 2023 (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023) Northern Illinois Food Bank - through its network of more than 900 food pantries, soup kitchens and feeding programs - provided 82.3 million meals across a 13-county service area.
