Aurora firefighters rescue girl, 5, from laundry chute

AURORA, Ill. (AP) - Firefighters have rescued a 5-year-old girl who got stuck in a laundry chute at a family friend's home in Aurora.

The Beacon-News (http://trib.in/1N0SDi0 ) reports that Kennedy Mancilla was stuck in the laundry chute for about 30 minutes Wednesday after she accidentally fell in feet-first.

Kennedy's mother heard her screams and found her most of the way down a laundry chute in between the ground floor and the basement. She called 911 when she realized she wouldn't be able to get Kennedy unstuck herself.

Firefighters arrived at the home and dismantled the laundry chute to get Kennedy out. She walked away from the ordeal with only a few bruises.

Aurora Fire Department spokesman Lt. Jim Rhodes says it was the first time the firefighters had to extricate a child from a laundry chute.
