Letter: Tell legislators you don't support abortion bills
Letter to the Daily Herald editor
Heads Up, Illinois! Are you paying attention?
Some of our Illinois legislators are proposing some of the most outrageous bills ever! We all need to know about them and do what we can to stop them.
These bills (House bills HB2467 and HB2495 and similar Senate bills SB1594 and SB1942) would rid our state law of just about every abortion restriction that has ever been passed.
HB2495 repeals the ban on partial birth abortion, so that a woman can kill her baby up until the moment it is born. It also cancels conscience protection that protects doctors' and hospitals' right to refuse to perform abortions. It allows non-doctors to perform abortions and forces all insurance plans to cover abortion. It says that an unborn child at any stage has no rights under the law.
HB 2467 and SB1594 would repeal our parental notification law. A minor girl could get an abortion without her parent even knowing about it.
These bills are extreme, and if you agree, we must let our legislators know that we do NOT support them. Please contact your state senator and representative and do what you can to promote the dignity of innocent unborn children. By doing nothing, we are complicit in letting such evil happen in our world.
