Beach Park man charged with making false report of hostage situation

A Beach Park man was jailed after falsely reporting a hostage situation and shootings at his house, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Robert Bruckner, 51, was charged with one count of disorderly conduct, a felony, in connection with a situation that began about 9 p.m. Sunday at his house on the 38300 block of North Avenue.

Bruckner called 911 to report a man just shot his sister inside of the residence, and the offender was holding a gun to his father's head, keeping him captive, according to sheriff's police.

While speaking with 911 dispatchers, Bruckner said the attacker just shot his mother in the head, police said.

Lake County sheriff's deputies formed a perimeter around the area and the sheriff's office tactical response team entered the house where hostage taker was believed to be. Nobody was inside the residence, including anyone who had been injured or shot, according to a Monday news release.

Detectives determined Bruckner's family was safe, in Wisconsin, and none of them had been taken hostage. In an interview with detectives, Bruckner did not provide an explanation for his false report and he was charged.

He was held on $10,000 given a June 16 court date.
