Letter: Political talk shows fuel our divisions
Recent letters to the Daily Herald from Arthur Siml and Patricia Gbur left me speechless. These letters are all too familiar.
All one needs to do is turn on Fox, ONN and/or Newsmax and you hear the exact same generic, one-sided propaganda from opinion heads. The damage done by these extreme entertainment shows is disturbing.
Instead of facts, specific facts, these letter writers present the same fear-filled, angry talking points that are spewed on these opinion/entertainment channels.
The death of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 ushered in the hatred and anger as displayed in these, and many other, letters to the Daily Herald. Anger and fear are stoked by these talk show hosts to keep us divided.
Opinion is presented as factual news. Social media, too, pushes us farther away from truth and facts and closer to hate, division and Fascism.
