Elgin police invite public, and pets, to celebrate the life of police dog Bauer

The public is invited to a celebration of life for Elgin police dog Bauer at the police department Saturday.

The event will honor the German shepherd's contributions to the force. Bauer recently died unexpectedly from cancer. Pets are welcome at the event, which will be at 11 a.m. in lobby of the police department at 151 Douglas Ave.

Bauer joined the department in 2015 and was assigned to officer Justin Brown.
