A shout-out to the human spirit

I am a 70-year-old woman in very good health, for which I thank God, genetics and some self discipline (except for the nightly glasses of wine I should probably give up). I just returned from the Wellness Center in Arlington Heights and felt a need to express my wonderment at the ability of some people to keep moving under the most adverse physical limitations.

Every time I am there, I see people using wheelchairs, walkers or canes and others who have to walk at a snail's pace but manage to keep moving forward. These people never cease to astonish me.

I thought about all of us who are physically healthy and able bodied who very often find it hard to get ourselves to walk around the block let alone to the health club.

I just wanted to say to all of you that I see at the health club (you know who you are), the blind who commute downtown with their support animals, and everyone else who has that amazing spirit to keep moving forward with their lives.

You have my utmost respect and praise. Thank you all for showing the rest of us what is possible.
